A string trimmer is an instrument
used to trim areas of your grass that are difficult to cut with a lawn mower. Like
an edger, they could be gas or electric powered, and may needed a gas/oil
mixture to operate.
Using a string trimmer allows you
to get up close to walls, curbs, trees and driveways. Caution needs to be taken
to avoid burning the grass with the nylon trimmer cord. If you cut too low to
the ground, you can burn the grass, causing a circular brown areas.
- Make sure there is sufficient nylon trim cord on the trimmer.
- Start it as directed in the operation manual.
- Check that there is no one around or close by. Like the edger, debris can be pelted around, hitting someone standing nearby.
- Move the string trimmer slowly to the left and right, getting a feel for it. Hold your elbows in toward your body for better control.
Once you are comfortable with the
balance of the machine, you can begin to trim the overgrown areas not
accessible with the lawn mower.
